Waving Goodbye To Rosie While Keeping The View In Perspective

Anyone up for a quick stroll down Memory Lane? Because the news of Rosie's sudden impending departure from The View has us feeling all nostalgic, and inspired to take a look back at the show's long, sordid history, and admire how much the program has evolved since it first launched sometime in the mid/late 1990's.

And suddenly, we're flashing back to 1997, a time when people were custom-building bomb shelters in preparation for Y2K, our high school boyfriend kept on pressuring us to "just do it already," and bimbo/trailblazer Debbie Matenopoulos was paving the way for Elisabeth Hasselbeck to take her place as "the blond one who's always wrong."

A time when Barbara Walters was actually sort of in charge, Star Jones was all morbidly obese and "I'm a lawyer," Katie Couric was still sitting pretty at the Today Show, no one had even heard of Meredith Vieira, and Joy Behar actually got some occasional air-time, which she generally wasted by shrilly reminding us how hilarious she's not.

Sigh.

But, chin up! We really shouldn't be sad. After all, it's just like Barbara used to say, back (once again) when SNL used to be funny: "I always wanted to do a show with women of different genewations, backgwounds and views: a working mom, a sassy black woman like I've seen on TV and a total idiot."

And you have, Barbara! You have!

It's just that then you sort of shook things up, by booting Debbie and Star, and replacing your talented, well-liked moderator with a loudmouth lesbian liberal who boosted ratings by feuding with anyone and everyone, completely usurped your authority and—more than likely—permanently damaged your esteemed (and hard-earned) reputation as a respected television journalist.

It's always refreshing to be reminded that, sometimes, dreams really do come true.

Wow! Why is she leaving? She has made this show sooooo enjoyable. She has a good heart and soul and is just saying what she feels. Some people are too sensitive and turn around and personally attack her. They forget about the premise of The View. She has done so much good. I believe that they will not be able to fill her shoes.
I really can't blame her for leaving with all of the personal attacks that she has endured from other 'celebrities'. Lighten up people. I'll miss you Rosie!

Will The View be better without Rosie?

I work for a social polling website called BuzzDash, and they're taking a vote right now on whether or not The View will be better off without Rosie and her drama. Take a look: http://www.buzzdash.com at the top.

I think polarizing people who feel that they can say anything, regardless of whose feelings that they hurt, whether it's Imus, or Ann Coulter, or Limbaugh or Rosie, or…. anyone; people who use the "push the envelope" to say those things that we have learned as children to whisper or the old "if you have nothing good to say, say nothing", have turned American society into something dark and not nice. I'm not saying that things can't be written, but when they are said and in a medium that spreads the word like wild fire, then … yes, as I said, this country has become a more hostile, offensive/defensive, battleground of insults. Edgy. Art has become "edgy", TV has become "edgy", popular music has become "edgy", magazines and their ads have become "edgy". People popularized by the popular culture, the paparazzi, given a forum, have begun to act "edgy". No underwear and short skirts and photos of one's "private parts" has become the thing to do. Why? Because it's "edgy". Only, has that brought us, as a society to a more sophisticated, higher place? No. It's like slowing down on the highway to look at a terrible accident. Why do we do that? Because we, as humans, seem to be drawn to horrific, to terrible, to disaster. So all of this…..junk,…. just feeds that human frailty.
And it becomes an addiction and an addiction costs money and the advertisers feed the need and Barbara Walters just wants to keep making money off of this show she owns. She's a peddler and nothing more. So, in answer to all this rambling, Rosie was a money maker for her. No matter how outrageous she acted, whether she grabbed her crotch and yelled "Eat Me!" to Donald Trump, knowing that he would jump at the bait on that award thing, Barbara Walters doesn't care; it only adds to the feeding frenzy that will carry over to her show and get her a few more pathetic viewers and the advertisers will eat it up and give her more money. Forget the fact that it is coarse and debase and pathetic and crude. People don't matter to Barbara Walters or the industry in general. It's all about the money.
The whole thing kind of reminds me of the common people going to the Coliseum to see the Christians eaten by the lions. Cheap fun for the masses.

what I fail to understand is why Imus lost his job over a nasty bad comment but yet rich powerful people like
Donald Trump can come out and say nasty things about
rosie like.. shes a fat slob etc. and its just fine with everyone and the media. Its sad to have double standards and when it comes to coments the same rules should apply to all no matter what race, creed or color or our standing in society. None of us are perfect.
