We Own You, Now Tell Us How Much You Love It
Really, Google?

So, like everybody else with a basic understanding of the internet, we understand that convenience is often more important than privacy. In the case of Gmail, all that storage is worth the fact that Google reads our email for ads. It’s a bit awkward when relationship advice ads pop up on the side of emails with boyfriends, but whatever.

But Google is now asking us to make a clip to put on their video sharing site about how much we love being watched by Google:

What's your Gmail story?

We're continually reminded why we work so hard on Gmail when we hear stories from you about how you're using it — from keeping your long-distance relationship alive over chat to saving a historic record of your high school life within a single conversation thread.

But pinning your stories on the walls around Google hasn't been the best way to share them with the Gmail community, so we're inviting you to share yours with the world. All you need is a video camera and a great story. Feel free to get creative with special effects or choreography or just tell it like it is.

Look, Google, control the world’s information, hell, control our private lives. But asking us to make a cutesy video praising you for it, and post it on a site where you'll profit from the ad revenue is too much.
