We're Going to War with Spain Because McCain Misheard a Question
Everyone Makes Mistakes

Yeah, whoops. John McCain may not have meant to intentionally lump Spain's leader José Zapatero in with Latin America's Hugo Chavez and Evo Morales and their anti-US sentiments — by confusing Zapatero's nation for a Latin American country during an interview— but now that the gaffe is out there on YouTube, he's not going to back down from his position. Bad idea, since the quote could easily be explained away as a simple misunderstanding, but instead is going to be trotted out by every opportunity for Democrats to be all "McCain hates Spain ARGH World War 3":

To be fair, McCain's response was broad enough that it technically could have been about Zapatero (dude's just saying he won't meet with America's enemies!) but the smarter course of action would have been to admit the mistake: America and Spain are besties and it's funny (hahaha) because sometimes its easy to confuse Latin America and Mexico with Spain because they all speak Spanish.

But nope, if John McCain is elected president he promises to strain ties with our NATO allies because of some stock response he gave about one country that was meant about a different one.

The white-haired dude's wrinkly-grey brain is failing him. If it wasn't so scary (as in, he could be the next President) it would be funny!

Also, someone just mailed me this. If you haven't seen it yet, it pretty good! Worth sharing, definitely.

Is there some secret oath that Republicans take that they can never say that they're sorry, that they've made a mistake, that they were wrong?

Maybe if they had been able to admit that they're not infallible during the run-up to the Iraq war, four thousand plus of our citizens would not have been killed in Iraq. In addition, maybe Bin Laden, the person who actually took responsibility for 9/11, would no longer be a threat.

Hey, what about America? What are we going to do about that country? Why are we discussing this when OUR OWN country is in such a sorry state? Can we never just turn our focus inward and worry about us for a while, instead of having our fingers in so many pies?

i hate john mccain as much as the next person, but he didn't really make a mistake.. whenever asked specifically about spain he said he'd keep up good relations with friends and stand up to enemies…. true he said "latin america" at the end but that's what the majority of the interview was about.

mccain says ridiculous, stupid, and offensive things allllll the time, let's talk about that… this was just an awkward interview.
