What Disney Movies Has Matt Damon Been Watching?
The Brave Little Alaskan

Matt Damon is a lot of things, although Boston native is the only one that springs automatically to mind. Now the Bourne Identity star and anti-poverty advocate can add another notch on his belt: Bad political analogy maker:

For anyone afraid The Talented Mr. Ripley is going to be speaking in tongues again, here's part of the transcript:

I think there's a really good chance Sarah Palin could become president, and I think that's a really scary thing… I think the pick was made for political purposes… Do the actuary tables and there's a one out of three chance, if not more, that McCain doesn't survive his first term and it'll be President Palin… It's like a really bad Disney movie. The hockey mom, you know, 'oh, I'm just a hockey mom'… and she's facing down Vladimir Putin… It's totally absurd… it's a really terrifying possibility.

First of all, kudos to Damon for saying what we were all thinking about McCain dying and Putnim and everything…the guy just consolidated all of America's fears about Palin into a relatively short rant.

But, what? What sort of Disney movie even remotely sounds like that could be a plot for? Better analogy: "It's like a really bad Aaron Sorkin movie." Or worse: "It's like a really bad Aaron Sorkin television series."

Matt, are you an idiot? What do we know about Obama? He has no history or experience - much less than Sarah Palin. You judge someone by the company they keep. Barack's company - Rev. Jeremiah Wright Farrakhan William Ayers Bernardine Rae Dohrn Michael Louis Pfleger

What we know about Barack is much scarier than what we don't know about Sarah.

President Palin. Scary? Sure. Matt Damon talking politics? That's even scarier. Putin is Prime Minister of Russia. No longer President. Matt needs to be a little more informed about politics before publicly spouting off.

Anna, are you an idiot? Palin left a town of 900 with a $22 BILLION debt after her term as mayor. Palin has a record of abuses of power and position to get rid of anyone who disagrees with her views. Palin authorized charging rape victims for kits to determine their attackers. Palin claims she is anti-pork, but only when it's actually convenient for her. Palin claims the media and her opponent are sexist, but only when it's convenient for her. Palin says her family is off limits, but only when it's convenient for her. Palin says she wants to shrink government, but in fact McCain policies would increase government control.

Palin's previous history is as a beauty queen and TV sports anchor. I'm an "average" woman too, but there is no way in hell that I think I am qualified to be president. Give me a break.

LKing - celebrities are people too, and if asked a question about politics they have every right to give their opinion. And maybe Matt Damon is more informed about politics than you think…if you think that PM Putin doesn't still have an iron fist of control over Russia.

No, LKing, Matt gets it right. He notes Palin as a President, not Putin. Listen first. Flame second.

Trixie,
Are you sure about that 22 Billion dollar debt? I think you might want to retract that statement. When you spell it in all caps, it just compounds the absurdity of the statement. Perhaps you want to do a quick "Google" check of the facts from some sources before you post. Are you sure it's billion with a "B"? An "average" woman might not be so reckless with the facts.

I think the scary thing Matt is totally right in saying ,is the fact that they're hiding her away from the media. Obama has been answering questions in the open for months, Palin's being locked up and away from any real scrutiny (she doesn't even take questions from the audience). It is scary to have someone who we know so little about who isn't answering questions potentially in the white house.

And that Gena Davis show where she's the VP that becomes the president was on ABC (Disney).

Yes, killing animals and eating their flesh! I also heard she is against clean water, and she wants all women to wear their hair up. While we are at it, she is trying to pass a law in Alaska
banning black people from entering the state. That Sara, she sure is opinionated.

trixie, Wasilla had about 5,000 residents when Palin became mayor. I think you're confusing how many votes she got (approx. 900 according to factcheck.org) when she ran for mayor with the population of the town.

I still don't think that makes $22 million in debt (she inherited $0 debt, incidentally) ok for a town that size, especially considering the median income for a household was under $50,000.

She didn't ban any books but did fire the librarian who told Palin she wouldn't allow it if it were suggested. The librarian was later reinstated after public furor. That would be three public officials who were fired or who she attempted to fire, thanks to her position.

Also, mike, I think the average person does play fast and loose with the facts — that's what got us into the mess of the last 8 years in the first place.

I think what Matt is really getting to is the fact that this woman has no history of understanding foreign conflicts. We don't know what she thinks about issues. However, though Obama has been on the political scene for the past 10 years, we know what his stand is on healthcare, the economy or the war. Sarah Palin is not known by millions of people like obama is. THen Obama has best selling books that a lot of people have read.. These things were great forms of exposure. Will I trust a Harvard Law Grad to run the country - FUCK yeah!
Will I trust the HockeyMom that most likely doesn't know where TIKRIT or SAMARIA is - Fuck NO!! There is s HUGE difference..

Obama has an EDUCATIONAL background to be reckoned with. This woman is marketing herself as a HockeyMOM.. What?? That is like Obama saying I am a community Organizer that NEVER graduated college.

Obama's may have only been a Junor senator of IL for 4 years and in the state Senate for another 4, but he was known in CHicago, Indiana and neighboring states before his big boost 4 years ago from the Democratic convention.. People knew of him in IOWA.. That is how he kicked Hillary off the map.

But Obama's background in Political Science, and his knowledge of Constitutional law because he is a Harvard educated Lawyer is a more than a qualification.

BTW, being President of the Harvard Law Review was also great exposure to people in this field.

I know it is hard to grasp, but Obama is a Grass roots phenomenon. People voted for him because they didn't just know him, but they knew him more intimately from an educational perspective as well…

I love when everyone rags on Matt Damon because he is an actor that voiced his opinion. Considering he attended Harvard, I find it interesting that those making negative remarks got their facts wrong. Sorry to say, but even though Putin is ONLY the PM of Russia, he is THE power in Russia; he chose his successor, keeps him in power, and dictates policy.

And "face down the DEVIL"? Wow, kc you must be one of those people that doesn't worry about the future because Rapture is just around the corner, so why not try Palin, right? Considering how much that woman has already blatantly lied and the general cattiness of her attacks, is this the person you want making deals in the Middle East? Also, her voice makes my ass twitch.

Not I. Plus, McCain is so desperate to be president it creeps me out. And just because McCain can crash 5 US planes, does not a military strategist make.

Damon raises an interesting point. Many folks who share her band of fundamentalism have some charming beliefs, like the idea that prayer can cure homosexuality. Many also believe that the Bible is literally 100% true, and so the earth is only a couple thousand years old like it says. Therefore, their thinking goes, dinosaurs never roamed the earth. Their fossils are not really real - they are props or a temptation from Satan or something like that, and oil is is a gift from God, not a fuel made from fossilized plant matter. I don't give a rat's ass if anybody believes this nonsense, but I certainly think that I have a right to know if one of the major party nominees is one of them.

Just lookup youtube videos of Sarah Palin and you will she is a blasphemous saying it's Gods will to drill for drill oil, and build a pipeline through alaska, and it God's will that we are in Irak!??

A RESPONSE TO ACTOR, MATT DAMON …

MATT …

You're just an actor, and everyone knows that you and Ben Afflick have been in the tank for Obma, even before Palin came along. Your lines are written for you, just like a speech writer creates the lines for Obama.
A director tells you what to do each moment . Make-up people and costurme designers work on your
appearance. Other than that, you're just like anybody else, except you seem to think that since you're
a manufactured celebrity, your opinion means more, but it doesn't.

QUESTION:
IS PALIN QUALIFIED COMPARED TO OBAMA ?

ANSWER:
http://townhall.com/blog/g/cba.....ments=true

Once again … if you compare McCain/Palin's track record with Obama/Biden's, it's no contest. McCain/Palin are a hundred times more qualified to lead this country. McCain/Palin show scores of actual achievements and solid service to America, while once again, Obama's track record is one of excessive absences from his responsibilities, and all talk with no actual experience, or contributions to America.
Like Governor Palin has pointed out … Obama had the time to write two memoirs, but never wrote one piece of significant legislation … not even when he was in the state legislature. Regarding earmarks, and the economy … If Obama gets elected, his irresponsible and clueless ideas for shifting America's wealth would turn the U.S.A. into a third world country, with businesses laying off employees to keep their doors open. Obama's ideas for national security would de-fang America and make us weak, putting us at the mercy of the world's tyrants.

Palin is qualified to be one thing; staunchly pro-life.

Until America can figure out a way to separate the abortion debate from picking the person who will be in charge of the national economy and foreign affairs, we are going to keep getting these candidates from the right who have strong beliefs in the first issue and no skills at all in the following two.

This election has to be the meanest and nastiest and I'm tired of these actors trying to tell me who to vote for. These candidates need to stick to the issues. That being said, I could never vote for Obama, as who knows where he stands on anything and look at those he works with ACORN, Rezko. The issue here isn't whether Matt Damon is a political wonk. He isn't. This is his personal reaction to McCain's choice of Palin and it's a valid one. Who cares about these stupid details or whether Matt really knows them (is Putin president or isn't he..he isn't but who cares, he runs the country). Let's assume for a moment that McCain had a sudden heart attack right before the Nov 4 vote; McCain is out of the picture. I can't believe anyone would vote for Palin over Obama for President. Is that what people here are saying? They think Obama is less qualified than Palin? We've seen what happens when a person who has no business becoming president gets elected; we get the most incompetent, wasteful, secretive, warmongering, power-hungry, morally corrupt, unprincipled, irresponsible, and disliked president in the history of this country. Our economy is in shambles, we've been fraudulently sucked into policing a country of religious extremists who want to kill each other and engulf the middle east in chaos costing us billions of dollars a week, our infrastructure has eroded without remedy, our constitutional rights have been curtailed at every turn, we have one of the most corrupt interior departments and justice departments on record, we have no plan to fix social security, or healthcare (45 million uninsured), or educational reform (US kids rank far lower than most 1st world countries), we have no real energy policy (drill, baby drill? that's it?), we have environmental disasters secondary to climate change but no progressive environmental policy (anyone seen New Orleans or Texas recently? what's the name of that next hurricane?), we have nuclear proliferation problems, immigration issues, our standing in the world in terms of power and integrity is at an all time low. I could go on for hours about how terrible the Bush administration has been for this country. And you want Palin, the governor of the third smallest state for 20 months, hockey mom divorcee of five with a new Down's baby to take care of and a pregnant teen out of wedlock to tackle these issues in her spare time? Are you on crack? Do you have any idea how difficult it is to deal with any one of these issues with any kind of depth and understanding? Obama was president of the harvard law review. Any idea how hard it is to be qualified for that position? How hard you have to work or how brilliant you have to be? He -taught- consitutional law. In his spare time. You want someone to really deal with these problems? Openly? While being scrutinized by the press and the world? Maybe, just maybe, we need someone who's just a liittle but smart, who can multi-task and is willing to answer questions face to face with the press. It has nothing to do with Palin being a woman. There are plenty of qualified women out there who could be president. Wanting Palin to be your president is like wanting the guy who manages your local McDonalds to do your brain surgery, fly your airplane, invest your life savings, and talk you out of hostage crisis situation all at the same time. This isn't a silly game where just anyone can win, anyone is qualified. We're going to need the smartest person we can get sitting behind that desk and Palin isn't even close to qualified.

Okay for one it doesn't even matter if a Democrat or a Republican gets elected president. Both of them take different means to get the same outcome; POWER! Either side is just going to not do what we're all in denial about and that is fix the our debt and the economy. They already know we can't pull out of this dive and they knew it started 30 years ago when they implemented the FEDERAL RESERVE. There is no way in hell we're going to pay back 5 or so trillion dollars when we don't even have any money. Both parties are the devils advocates' and either party is going to hook us the country in by doing what we think is right, that which is wrong. In true it doesn't matter what Matt thinks about this and it doesn't matter what we all think about this because it's all a crock!!
