When Times Get Tough, Blame Bonnie
Fuller 'Credited' With Amazon Andy Roddick Cover Gaff

Remember last week when TMZ* blew the lid off of Andy Roddick's (superimposed) tree-trunk arms? Well apparently, AMI prez David Pecker was less than thrilled about all the negative publicity. And so, he did what any of us would do: publicly insinuated Bonnie Fuller was to blame, and tattled about her super long lunches crappy interview skills and her inability to copy-edit. Like, at all.

Sources told Page Six that AMI chief David Pecker "went crazy" on editorial director Bonnie Fuller Friday morning. The rant came after Pecker read Keith J. Kelly's Media Ink column in The Post, in which the magazine admitted its cover subject's body had been altered. The issue was put together under the watch of Boulton, who has since been replaced by new editor-in-chief Roy Johnson.

"Pecker is livid. He really thinks this is something Bonnie should have caught," said one source. "He's crazy about wanting everything in his magazines to be accurate and basically told her she was responsible."

Normally, we'd make a joke here about AMI's "crazy" obsession with accuracy, but instead we'll content ourselves by smugly pointing out that Page Six could use a copy-editor of their own.

Men's Fitness insists the cover was merely an enhancement of Roddick's arms, not a composite of his head on a different body. But an insider noted, "Pecker was livid over this. It was on Neal Boulton's watch, but he expects Bonnie to catch these things."

How funny that both the anonymous source and unnamed insider used the exact same language ("livid") to describe Pecker's reaction! Seriously, when was the last time you heard the word "livid" used in a sentence?**

Plus, then there's that business about Bonnie Fuller not showing up till mid afternoon. Possibly because she's hungover, although Fuller says it's from all those late nights she spent boozing and browsing Craigslist jobs working.

Now, we can't know for sure who's to blame (although Neal "He Groped Jann Wenner" Boulton sure seems to have gotten off, scot-free!) but we do know how much we've enjoyed seeing Andy Roddick's head on Fabio's body!

However, we simply can't believe Bonnie had anything to do with all this. Not only has she always held herself up to the highest of standards in both her personal and professional lives, but this just doesn't seem like the kind of oversight you'd expect from someone who's so happy to be working with those terrific magazines, and wonderful brands over at American Media.

In other words, that utter lack of attention detail is exactly what we wouldn't expect from someone who's definitely, positively, absolutely not looking for another job.

*And by "TMZ," we clearly mean "Pink is the New Blog"

weird. one hears that pecker sees all of the covers and approves them all and that it's a bone of contention with editors . . . guess that can't be true.
