Where Will the Madge-Ritchie Split Rank in Divorce Settlement History?
The Cost of Love

First we told you that Guy Ritchie stood to make $100 million plus from his divorce with Madonna. Then came word that, no, Ritchie wants "not one penny" of Madge's fortune. But if that's true, then why has Madonna acquired the services of Fiona Shackleton, Britain's shrewdest divorce attorney?

Today, new information about the still unfolding drama says that not only is Ritchie going after Madge's millions, under British law, he stands to see about 250 of them.

Were Ritchie to walk away from his marriage with a quarter of a billion dollars, it would be the most expensive celebrity divorce in recent history.

After the jump, more ungodly settlements.

• Michael Jordan took a $150 million hit to his bank account when his wife, Juanita, filed for divorce in 2006. Neil Diamond lost the same amount when his wife filed for divorce in 1994. Diamond is reported as saying she was "worth every penny."

• Amy Irving took husband Steven Spielberg for $100 million in their split, successfully contesting the couple's prenup, which had been scribbled on a napkin.

• Harrison Ford's ex, Melissa Mathison, not only got $85 million in settlement money from their divorce, she also managed to obtain a piece of Ford's future earnings from projects he made while married to her (ie DVD sales of the Indiana Jones trilogy).

• Kevin Costner lost $80 million to estranged wife Cindy Silva in 1994, about $30 million more than Paul McCartney was order to pay to Heather Mills earlier this year.

• The costliest divorce in history is Rupert Murdoch's 1999 split from second wife Anna Murdoch, who exited the couple's marriage with a staggering $1.7 billion in assets. At which point Rupert, then 68, promptly married a 30-year-old.
