When “Baby One More Time” came out, we ignored the domestic violence and pop confection undertones and embraced. The lip liner, the dance sequences, the pig tails, we loved it all.
But eight years, two divorces, a million cover of Us Weekly later, who, other than a crazy kid from Tennessee, still believes that Britney’s talent extends beyond her role as a national trainwreck?
MTV News did an “investigation” on the current state of Britney enthusiasts. Most are gay or fans from before puberty. Almost everyone is embarrassed to share their music taste with their friends, which is probably a good call. One fan explained her choice to buy the new album:
About her music? There's never been a song [of hers] that I didn't like — and of course I love 'Gimme More,' I can't stop listening to it. I'll definitely buy the album because that's the only way I can help her and I'll do it because I want to have a peaceful woman to look up to, as I had a peaceful and successful teenager/ young woman to look up to.
While supporting Britney Spears through this difficult time is noble, helping her financially by buying her new album will just enable her downfall. Money did not make Britney a peaceful young woman, and more money won’t help her become one.

i love britney. it pisses me off that people keep talking bad about her. yes she has made some bad decisions in her life, but that doesnt affect her music and the way she sings at all. she has a terrific voice and knows how to use things to her advantage thats all. i will definitely be buying her cd the day it comes out.
uh…she doesn't so much sing as lip sync.
I hate what people are saying about Britney, everyone makes mistakes… I think that it's wrong to try and get her fans not to buy her cd's, she's a great talent! i know she has alot of fans out there we need to band together in this difficult time and buy her cd's.. if we dont she'll think she has nothing left, i personally dont want her to think that because i love her music and i think that deep down she has a huge heart…. sometimes people just go down the wrong road, i know she's made mistakes and as she said, she will continue to make mistakes everyday! I just look back to when she was younger… she's still that person to me on the inside and eventually she will be that Britney Spears that we all know and love!!! Britney has something a lot of stars don't. She has a unique style which is why she got her contract in 1999 in the first place. The 80 million units sold prove this point as well. Instead of being a copy cat wanna be. She was and is the original. If anything all the media and the lies have hurt her image. While some is true, 75% of what's said is usually exaggerated in 'news', tabloids etc in an effort to make money. I also don't get this notion that some gay people like her music. That's pretty much true of many female singers though. It could be because sometimes she sings in a sweet way, and maybe they like that? But again, I don't quite see the connection. They've also claimed this with many past stars over the years I've noticed.
While I can appreciate that she needs to work on her life some, what I really dislike is noticing that so many people are out to destroy her image. And don't say it's not so. It definitely is happening. Even that new site that wants people not to buy her cd until she 'gets better' is just mean, because they don't really know what exact things are going on. Plus it was one of her past employees that she fired. He's already been caught lying once. So I doubt this is out of the goodness of his heart. It's more like a revenge sort of thing. People like that, make me sick.
