Who's the Real Victim of Obama's Spanish-Language Ad?
No one comes out unscathed

A lot of hogwallop is being made over Obama's latest ad that ties John McCain and his anti-immigration policy with the thoughts of Lou Dobbs' predecessor, Rush Limbaugh. In Spanish.

But who is this bilingual ad actually dissing? The full video and translation, after the jump:

“They want us to forget the insults we’ve put up with, the intolerance,” the television ad’s announcer says in Spanish as a picture of Rush Limbaugh appears onscreen with quotes of him saying, “Mexicans are stupid and unqualified” and “Shut your mouth or get out.”

“They made us feel marginalized in a country we love so much,” the ad continues. “John McCain and his Republican friends have two faces. One that says lies just to get our vote and another, even worse, that continues the failed policies of George Bush that put special interests ahead of working families.”

The companion radio ad uses the same script as above and then continues:

“Don’t forget that John McCain abandoned us rather than confront the leaders of the Republican Party. Many of us were born here, and others came to work and achieve a better life for their families — not to commit crimes or drain the system like many of John McCain’s friends claim. Let’s not be fooled by political tricks from John McCain and the Republicans. Vote so they respect us. Vote for a change.”

So who does this ad hurt the image of more: McCain for looking out of touch and not knowing how to speak a second language (unless he learned anything over at Hanoi), or Obama for playing directly into conservative fears that he is the definition of other and will open up the floodgates to lazy Mexicans and Islamic terrorists when he's elected prez? Or Mexicans, for being called "stupid and unqualified" in an ad ostensibly targeted to them?

I usually don't comment on politics, but I think the ad hurts McCain and the Republican party, as intended. The "stupid Mexicans" comment only hurts Rush because he said it and it's repeated as a quote. It just shows what a moron he is.

Because the ad is presumably aimed at American CITIZENS of Mexican heritage (since illegal aliens can't vote, obviously), I don't think the ad can be interpreted as saying Obama is going to open any floodgates (except by the Republicans, who are going to cast anything he says in the worst possible light anyway, regardless of whether it makes sense to or not).

I think Obama is highlighting the habit that the Republican's tend to have of lumping all foreign residents of the U.S. together, failing to recognize the difference between legals and illegals, law abiding citizens and criminals. Obama is addressing Hispanic citizens in this commercial, not illegals.

No. 2 · Now, the facts

The BHO ad takes both quotes completely out of context; even JakeTapper calls it dishonest. For the details, see my name's link.

Then, feel free to roll the actual facts of the matter and a much deeper understanding of these type of issues into a new post.

This along with the every other B. Hussein Obama act of stupidity goes to show that he will blatently lie to gain votes. Do we really want this type of person as our President?

1. Refuses to place his hand over his heart and looks away from the flag during the national anthum.

2. Wants to teach kindergartners about sex.

3. Had porta-johns placed on a police memorial at a political rally.

4. Believes that every American should teach their kids Spanish.

These reasons go on and on and on!

Paul & other "Americans for McCain/Palin", do you all just scour the internet looking for narrowly tailored blog posts to which you can add comments using completely un-related talking points? This blog post was about this ad only.

I'm getting a little sick of Paul & other "Americans for McCain/Palin" engaging in such practices. There are appropriate places for such talking points, but this wasn't one of them.

It is, however, the height of irony to respond to a narrowly tailored blog post about some Republicans being unsupportive of those in the Spanish-speaking world with the allegation that Senator Obama is bad for America because he supports American children learning Spanish. Just so you know.

Oh my god! Paul has typed out 'Hussein' to make me think Obama is linked to Saddam Hussein and terrorists. And it totally worked! I certainly could not trust a man who put portaloos on a memorial to run the country! I'm going to choose a man who looks like he's about to cark it and a woman who kills wolves for fun instead!

I find Paul funny as shit. There's so many of his kind, who fear the unknown, hate for absolutely no reason, and are stubborn as a roomful of jackasses. So to address his points…

1. Many people stand with respect without their hands across their hearts during the National Anthem. The hand over the heart is for the Pledge of Allegiance. Confused much?

2.He wants sex edumacayshun in schools, starting at age 12, JUST LIKE WE WERE RAISED (I took my first sex ed test in the 6th grade). Yes, apparently ignoring the obvious–that kids are having sex in grade school these days–putting our heads in the sand is the way to go. A certain someone running for VP *cough cough* is proof the abstinence-only plan for sex ed is working, right? *cough cough*

3. Oh, the horror of being accommodating to the jillions who might ACTUALLY HAVE TO GO TO THE BATHROOM during a political rally, to use their right to free speech. SO TACKY, Obama.

4. Oh, that crusty old immigration problem. As usual, you forgot: your own ancestors set sail to get here, to make sure your ass was eventually born here, but not so that you can whip out your racist sense of white entitlement card and whine about kids being raised bilingual. I don't know what pack of wolves raised you, but being bilingual can be quite impressive on the old resume. And these poor, abused children who HAD to learn Spanish as adults will now qualify for jobs in TWENTY-ONE (at minimum) other countries (which they will actually HAVE to do, if you fucktards keep voting in the conservatives. Nevermind the fact that 18.3 million or more people in this country already speak it (get with the times, geezer. It's just gonna keep growing). So bring it on, and why stop there? They should be learning Russian, Chinese, Japanese, Arabic, etc., etc. etc. I don't know, maybe something will happen, like, I dunno COMMUNICATION around the world?

Last, you say "Americans" for John McJurassic and his sidekick Caribou Barbie, like the "rest of us" aren't. Sigh. So tired of that rhetoric.

So as a last favor to us "traitors," I deplore you: please hit your wife over the head and drag her by her hair back into the cave where you both belong (and make more of you two, please!), nursing your Bush amnesia-oriented brain, whining about losing your home and the soaring gas prices. Oh, and if you're not married–no wonder, and thank God for the rest of us. Get snipped.

Democrats play divisive politics. They try to pit different racial groups against each other. That's their only hope to institute their socialist agenda. It's sad we don't have third political party that wants to make America better instead of the same political bullshit.

I LOVE you Mizz Thang! You said everything I wanted to say! Also, the sex ed. for kindergarteners is only teaching them what to do if someone touches them inappropriately and that is a GOOD thing.

Yeah, I had to chuckle when I heard McCain's camp seriously accusing Obama of supporting sex ed for kdg. Obviously, a simple google search reveals it is about appropriate/inappropriate touching for the kids' protection. But I've been seeing so many comments of people who really believe it's sex ed for kindergarten! Gullible much?
