Ooh, the mole at NBC who leaked the probably-true rumor about David Gregory taking over Meet the Press? None other than our ginger-hair MSNBC choice pick:
The infamous in-house squabbling over Tim Russert's replacement "is at a new peak" said one tipster, with some NBC suits and talent sore over the network's widely reported choice of Gregory - who had yet to be confirmed as of last night. An other source said the brass blame MSNBC host Chuck Todd for tipping off media blogs on Gregory's new gig - for which Todd was a top contender - and ruining the announcement that was planned to be made this Sunday by interim "Meet the Press" host Tom Brokaw. Whoa! That's heavy stuff, Page Six. Only one problem: It can be hard to believe anything the Post writes about NBC.
It's the classic tale of two cities, or two giant conglomerates in this case.
General Electric v. News Corp., or the the feud that's gone on longer than Law & Order. And since the Post — heretofor known as Murdoch's attack mouthpiece — has a vested interest in shaming MSNBC/NBC talent, a skeptic would be a smidge dubious in trusting the anonymous sources cited by the Post when it comes to that talk of peacock in-fighting.
Not that we're flagging today's P6 "Toddis the leak" item as untrue — lord knows that place looks like the end of a WWE match most nights — but because there is so clearly an agenda that Murdoch & Co. push against Jeff Zucker and Phil Griffin, it'd be wise to take the coverage with a grain of salt, just like breaking news.
But then again, maybe we just don't want to believe that Chuck Todd, who seemed like the best choice for the Meet the Press job, would resort to such tawdry and back-stabbing methods. That's sort of David Gregory's turf.

I'd LOVE to believe that Chuck Todd would resort to such tawdry and back-stabbing methods against David Gregory! I'm sure Stretch would do it. Oooh, here's a good one…maybe David Gregory is the one who is calling the New York Post and blaming it all on Chucky T….good times. Wasn't Gregory once blamed for leaking in one of those "Ooh, poor NBC, they always have to put up with those weirdos Keith and Chris" articles? I wouldn't put it past him.
Where's the benefit to Todd in leaking? Pissing on MTP, which don't forget is his mentor's legacy? Meh. I don't buy it.
Occam's Razor sez: Stretch has the most to gain by putting NBC in a corner during negotiations.
It was pretty obvious from the "contender" quotes in the Times that it was Andrea Mitchell.
If this is true, I'd lose alot of respect for Chuck. I just can't imagine he'd do such a thing. What is it about MSNBC????? This station just brings the worst out of everyone!
Hello Gregory. Goodbye Meet The Press.
This is a no contest battle. Gregory is leaking in hopes of forcing himself into position.
Todd is the obvious choice. Even Universal-NBC can see that. He's unique, smart, and has that kind of camera presence that all actors and news folks long for.
I can't imagine NBC would let a catch like Todd get away to install a cookie cutter reporter like Gregory that one can't tell from any other news jock.
I agree with you 100%, Newshound. But if Todd IS the obvious choice, why is everyone else saying it's Gregory? Do you think NBC will actually listen to the cries of protest from the people if Gregory actually gets the job? I doubt it.
Gregory is still trying to wear off the toxicity of his wife's corrupt legal work" at Fannie Mae.
Oh give me a break about it being Chuck Todd who leaked the news.
I can just guess who THAT leak came from. Obviously, Gregory didn't like the very adverse reaction to news of his impending selection.
Frankly, it ticks me off that people are trying to lay the blame on the one guy who is clearly not a prima donna…
Gregory is not a serious reporter; he's a goof ball. He belongs on "Today" joshin' with Meredith, etc. He rarely lobbed serious questions to Bush. He wants to be liked and that makes him non-objective and weak. His wife is a liability: a spendaholic whiner with the maternal instincts of a shark.
With Gregory NBC finally has someone with insecurities and a skin condition worse than Andrea Mitchell's…
Oh, an somebody cut Chuck Todd's nuts off…Oh, wait…Oh, I see, nevermind.
What is with Gregory's still being in the closet? Doesn't he know that we out and we're proud?
Is Matt Lauer really a homophobe?
So are they going to announce Gregory's position on Meet the Press this Sunday? Please, please, please, nooooooooo!!!!!!
