Without a Pay Raise, Chris Noth Walks from Law & Order
But wait! There's hope yet!

The casting of insanely hot Michaela McManus as Law & Order: SVU's new assistant district attorney isn't the franchise's only major casting news. The spin-off Criminal Intent also has a roster change up — and it's a doozy. Having cashed another decent pay day with Sex and the City and not liking the request to take a pay freeze instead of an increase, Chris Noth is ditching the TV show, where he plays Det. Mike Logan and has, since leaving the original Law & Order when it started 18 years ago before returning to CI, split his screen time with Vincent D'Onofrio, who swapped in every other episode. But Criminal Intent, whose ratings had NBC Universal moving the new episodes of the series off NBC proper and on to USA, isn't moving to a standard format with only one set of regular detectives — Noth has a successor. And you might know him from a little movie called Jurassic Park.

Or one of, like, nine hundred other movies or TV appearances. Taking over for Noth is Jeff Goldbum, who, well, hasn't really been up to much since his episode arc on Will & Grace. But! We're quite interested to see Goldblum in this role. Only caveat: Noth was a great off-screen foil to D'Onofrio (since the two never shared the screen at the same time). The quarks of D'Onofrio's Det. Robert Goren were tolerable because Noth's Det. Logan was more level-headed. Goldblum's characters throughout his career have leaned toward the more eccentric side. If CI has him sticking to that routine, two socially awkward investigators might be too much.

Gah. I am such a Law and Order nerd. The two did share the screen together when they reintroduced Logan. There was a quip in which Goren's partner says, "There they go, Oceans 2"

I was really disappointed when I read the headline, but they've found a great replacement. Viva Law & Order!
