I was having an argument with a friend yesterday about whether women are naturally haters against others of their own sex, or whether they were just able to vocally express it in a way that socially, men were not permitted to. Because sure, look at those female reporters like Katie Couric and Campbell Brown and Rachel Maddow go after Sarah Palin! Meanwhile, Joe Biden during the VP debates had to reign it in like a motherfucker so he wouldn't come off as a bully.
On the other hand, there is something to be said for women-on-women violence: mainly that since it is considered culturally more acceptable than inter-gender hating, and female jealousy being one of the largest stereotypes of our sex ("frenemies" wasn't created for dudes, sorry), that women are often encouraged to attack and discredit other women, instead of laying down some girl power and taking back the night.
At least, this is what Dame Helen Mirren believed, when she made some inflammatory remarks regarding rape victims and the women picked to serve on the jury for these crimes.
In an interview, the 63-year-old Oscar-winning actress said that in such cases female jurors are deliberately selected by defence barristers because 'women go against women'.
She suggested that women jurors are less likely to convict a rapist since they tend to think the victim was 'asking for it'.
'Whether in a deep-seated animalistic way, going back billions of years, or from a sense of tribal jealousy or just antagonism, I don't know.'
'But other women on a rape case would say she was asking for it. The only reason I can think of is that they're sexually jealous.'
Mirren also remarked that women who willingly go home with a man shouldn't be able to bring rape trials to court. And sorry Helen, I love you, but you are completely wrong on this. And I'm not just saying that because I'm sexually jealous of you. As someone who claims (see! I'm doing it already!) to have been date raped several times during her life, you would think Mirren would know how dangerous her words are, as they could disway sexual assault victims from ever coming forward to the police.

I understand what she's getting at, but I don't know if "sexually jealous" is the correct way to put it. Probably "sexually repressed and upset that other women don't conform to that repression" is more accurate. It's the very damaging and antiquated mindset that if a woman isn't at church or at home w/family, she's probably a slut and deserves what she gets. Very sad.

Maddow was a Rhodes Scholar who earned a PhD from Oxford while Palin failed out and transferred schools repeatedly before graduating from an average institution with a degree in Journalism. Furthermore, she graduated with a degree in journalism but can't list a single newspaper or magazine she reads.
How again is Palin smarter than Maddow?
Just because you get a degree, it doesn't mean your smart.
I don't see one positive thing with Palin. Sure, she's not offensive looking, but I really don't care what the VP or possible Prez looks like. Her problem is that she has no depth. Couric, Brown and Maddow didn't report anything that wasn't handed to them. They presented the stories as they viewed them. And to IceCold, Rachel Maddow is clearly a highly intelligent woman. It doesn't matter if you agree with her views. A Rhodes scholarship is a big deal…and her doctorate is in Political Science, not Home Economics featuring great Moose stew recipes.
