Woodruff & Vargas: ABC's 'rotating bottoms' — officially

Woodruff & Vargas

Remember this morning, when we told you Elizabeth Vargas and Bob Woodruff were set to become the two-timing anchor duo at ABC's World News Tonight? Yeah, well, ABC News made it official.

The added benefit of dual anchors? More horsepower to kick out a live West Coast edition of the newscast, which means at long last Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle and other cities we're quite good at neglecting will finally get their own version of, uh, "live" news. (Vargas, meanwhile, is sticking around as 20/20 co-host.)

All this hubbub does not mean Les Moonves (err, Sean McManus, right?) is any closer to choosing Dan Rather's successor. It does, however, increase the chances of awkward footsies underneath the news desk while the teleprompter rolls on with Iraqi war coverage.
