You Might Have to Start Feeling Bad for Shia LaBeouf
Instead of grouping him in with other Hollywood statistics

His DUI accident might not have been his fault. At least not entirely. "L.A. County Sheriff's Department spokesman Steve Whitmore said the investigation suggests that another driver may have run a red light, hitting LaBeouf's truck. That driver was cited at the scene for running a red light. LaBeouf made a left turn and collided with an oncoming car about 2:30 a.m. The actor's Ford F-150 pickup truck rolled over in the crash." Doesn't take away the fact that he was still drinking and driving…

Talented actor with a lot of potential. I hope he gets real help (not Hollywood rehab) to get ahead of his drinking before it comes a detriment to his carrer or - more importatnly - before he hurts someone.

Since when did drinking and driving equal having an alcohol problem Elizabeth? So he made a horrible decision…he's a 22 year old guy, which means he'll be making a lot more over the next few years.

Izzy, as a long time Shia fan, I've read a lot of interviews his done and he basically does have an alcohol problem. Alcoholism runs in his family and he has admited that he doesn't know how to have just "one" drink. Shia has proven in the past that he can not break addictions easily (look at all of the ridiculous, petty arrests and warnings he's gotten concerning smoking, yet he continues the habit), so I agree with Elizabeth that he should seek help before it becomes unbareable.

Ok — he didn't cause the accident - but he was still drunk behind the wheel of a moving vehicle - yes?

Erin, as a psychologist, I have worked with hundreds of clients addicted to alcohol and drugs and fully understand the role that heredity plays in the disease of addiction. If you took the time to read the DSM-IV-TR criteria for alcohol addiction, you would find that while Mr. LaBeouf might partake in the use of substances a little more than he should, he is not addicted. It should also be noted that if we considered every individual who engages in self-injurious behavior to have a "problem" then most of the country would need help. (After all, obesity, which affects 60% of the country, is just as harmful as smoking cigarettes. Let us not forget the individuals who break the speed limit…or the young professionals who work 60-80 hours a week-setting themselves up for a heart attack at forty)
